OUR MISSION
The Society for a Secure and Sustainable Water Future (S4SSWF) is a Virginia based nonprofit dedicated to advancing long term water sustainability through practical solutions, sound policy, and public education. Guided by our R.I.P.E. Framework of Research, Implementation, Policy, and Education, we connect science, real world action, public policy, and community engagement to help build a more secure and resilient water future. While rainwater harvesting remains an important part of our work, our mission extends far beyond any single technology. We believe fresh drinking water should not be the default source for every non drinking use. Instead, we advocate for expanding the toolbox of sustainable water solutions and implementing the most appropriate option for each situation. Depending on the need, that may include rainwater harvesting, stormwater capture, reclaimed water, non potable water reuse, water efficient infrastructure, or other innovative approaches that conserve our most valuable resource.
Led by Tyrone Jarvis, Leslie Jarvis, and Alexander Jarvis, S4SSWF combines research, implementation, policy advocacy, public education, media outreach, and strategic partnerships to advance smarter and more resilient approaches to water management. Our work includes legislative initiatives, sustainability research, community outreach, educational resources, and real world implementation projects that demonstrate practical solutions for homes, businesses, schools, public facilities, data centers, and other emerging industries. We believe sustainability is about more than conservation. It is about preparation, innovation, resilience, and responsible stewardship. As communities face increasing pressure from population growth, aging infrastructure, climate variability, and the rapid expansion of technologies such as artificial intelligence and data centers, thoughtful water management has never been more important. Our mission is to help communities rethink how water is valued, managed, and used by promoting decentralized and supplemental water supplies where appropriate, reducing pollution and stormwater runoff, supporting sustainable infrastructure, and encouraging responsible water planning at every scale. By bringing together Research, Implementation, Policy, and Education, S4SSWF is working toward a future where communities are more environmentally responsible, water resources are used more wisely, and sustainable water solutions become an integral part of how society prepares for tomorrow.
